The HR Forum

Hi All,

Great question from one of our Level 5 participants this evening on recommended reading for HR Level 5. Whilst there is a text book associated with this programme, what other books, resources, material would you recommend.

Of course, we mentioned the DPG Community as being a rich source of information as well as the CIPD website. What others can you think of. I'd be interested to find out.

  • In terms of resources and things to follow I'd recommend setting up a Twitter account and following

@CIPD - great HR / L&D information and latest happenings

@PeopleManagement - good articles and up to date HR happenings

@DPGplc - just all round awesome content and conversation

@Deloitte - latest research and findings on a range of things

    @HRMagazine - latest HR information

Even better - set yourself up a Twitter list and add all these accounts and more - you can then get a stream of HR information at your finger tips :)

  • Hi Ady

One of my learners on my Birmingham programme today mentioned that when you complete the My HR Map (as part of a gap analysis against the HR profession map) that with the development areas comes a list of recommended reading, text, journals and research and such like.

This sounds like a great tool for learners to utilise and then focus on specific texts which will aid their develpoment.

    I hope this helps!

  • Hi Ady

For employment law I always recommend to my learners Selwyn's Law of Employment it has been an invaluable resource to me over the course of my HR career, really easy to follow and jargon free.  You just need to make sure that you get the latest edition so it is bang up to date which I think is on the 19th edition now!

    All the best

    • Hiya

Just to back up Sarah's comment here - Selwyn is a great source for employment law.  I have the most recent and a previous 2 versions as well, so I can demonstrate my commitment to it as a resource :-)

      Best wishes

      Tamasin

Did you know your local CIPD branch will put on relevant events that are free to CIPD members.

Take a look for your local branch here and what events are happening. Remember attending these events are great CPD evidence.
