Absence Management Software

Hi Everyone!

We are about to kick start some research into suitable absence management software for recording employee holidays & sickness absence so I would like to hear about any recommendations from the HR Community as to what systems you all use.

We are currently using E Days but have found that after 3 system builds it is not meeting our needs, prior to this we have used HR Net, but this was too costly for our SME & registered charity of 70 people.

Any recommendations would be welcomed - thanks in advance! :)

  • Hi Kirstin

You may find sites like Capterra or Software Advice useful as they include reviews from users, and provide an indication of pricing. As you have probably discovered, most of the more modern cost-effective (Cloud-native v hosted) UK suppliers publish their prices on their website and offer discounts for charities, which could be helpful for your budgeting. If you'd like me to send you a couple of case studies from companies in a similar space as you, let me know.

    Kind regards

    Sue

  • Hi Kirstin

We use CIPHR People. It's a great piece of software and fairly easy to use. It can produce some great reports but it does depend on managers remembering to update the system by entering the absences. It's a simple process but often forgotten! We also use CIPHR for our payroll and documents publishing etc.

    • This sounds really useful - we too struggle with managers accessing & updating the current E Days system & also lack confidence in whether employees are genuinely recording their absences...! I am sure this is the case with all self service systems & just comes down to Managers ensuring employees are doing as they should.

  • Hi Kirstin, I also recently looked into this. We had been considering something which offered HR Support as well as a more advanced absences planner. I shortlisted my requirements to Moorepay, which links with payroll too and offers various other add on's. Depends on your budget too and whether you only want this as a stand alone system. These systems are usually designed to operate at their most optimum when you take the full package.
    Try contacting: lee.thomasson@moorepay.co.uk
    • Thanks for the contact details Sue, will include this as part of our review, however don't think we will be able to come ou too contract with Opera for at least 3 years so we're probably looking at a separate piece of software unless Opera turns up trumps ;)

  • Hi Kirstin thanks for the post we use accounting software called Xero which has an add on package where we can track absence and holidays very easily and with no added cost to the business.  All the best Sarah

    • Thanks Sarah, I'll take a look at this, we use Opera accounting software, so I will also check if there is a module we can choose as an add on within this - Thanks!

  • At our institution we use Trent for holding employee information and payroll and incorporated an annual leave system into that. So when we book paid leave/ unpaid leave/ sickness/ flexi day, employees do this through the employee self service side of Trent which then gets transferred to the back end that we in HR use.

    • Thanks Katy! This seems to be a popular method combining the system with payroll, definitely something for us to consider. I'll take a look at Trent as part of our review.
