Apps for smart phones for HR information

In this age of technology and managers having information at their finger tips, we are thinking of developing some apps for smart phones that our managers can use to have HR information readily available without having to log in to a computer or phone us in HR.

Do any of you use anything like this at the moment? If so, how did you go about developing it, what success have you had etc?

Thanks for any help in advance

Clare

  • Hi Clare,

Yes, it is very exciting that we here at Barclays have created a Maternity – Staying in Touch App – which has recently gone Live to all our Barclays colleagues!

We are delighted to let you know that our Staying in Touch App was been built and tested via our very own Digital Eagles team . More information on our Digital Eagles can be found here www.barclays.co.uk/DigitalEagles

The App has been designed specifically for women on maternity leave (and their line managers), to provide essential information and guidance when they are not in work. Having access to key information while on leave is a high priority for colleagues and it is not always clear for the colleague or line manager what they both need to do before, during and after the period of maternity leave. The Staying in Touch App have addressed these requirements and provided an easy to follow solution that can be accessed very simply through mobile devices.

Our Staying in touch App also received an Innovation Award from Mumsnet ! click here for more information http://www.mumsnet.com

We continue to listen to our colleagues feedback and we are intending to roll this out for all types of family leave and career breakers soon!

  • Hi Clare

No problem I will email you the details.

    Regards

    Sarah

  • Hi Clare

Wow that sounds very 21st Century Clare.

I have a client and they provide all their workforce tablets so they can log on to manage timesheets, book holidays and record sickness that sort of thing.  In terms of development I know a good Company in Derby that develops apps of this nature happy to pass on their details f this  may help.

    Regards

    Sarah

    • Hi Sarah, that would be a great help - thanks Sarah.

  • This is a really interesting post Clare. Mobile is gaining momentum as this article from Forbes shows.

A lot of mobile app development seems to becoming from the big HR technology solution companies such as Workforce, Salesforce and SAP to name a few. These apps link to their solutions allowing employees to get access to key information via iOS and Android however iOS still seems to be the dominant app platform due to Apple's place in the corporate world and security etc.

Here is a link to some existing HR Apps that might help give you more information or some ideas and existing apps.

I know someone who has developed an app at Barclays to help with those returning from maternity I'll see if they can share some details, could be helpful if you're looking to develop your own.

What sort of mobile policy do you have - do you provide mobiles or do you operate a Bring Your Own Device Policy (BYOD)

    Mike

    • Hi Mike, that's been really helpful - thank you so much - I'll have a good look at it tomorrow. Yes please it would be good to see if you can get any details from your Barclays contact.

Our higher managers are all provided with IPhones from work and that's the population we're aiming at. We don't know where to start with design at the moment!

      Thanks

      Clare
