Picture the scene it's a dark, damp, winter's night. You were up at the crack of dawn for a breakfast meeting. It's been a challenging day and you just want to head home and collapse on to the sofa. Then you think oh I've booked on to go to a CIPD branch event tonight. Said branch event starts at 6.00 and doesn't finish until 9.00. So no crashing in front of the tv tonight........
So the branch event hosted by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire CIPD branch was about the The Future of HR and David D'Souza the CIPD Head of Engagement and London. It was also refreshing to see someone from CIPD Head Office leave the big smoke to come and engage with local branches.
It was one of the times when you were glad you made the effort, topics which were covered in no particular order were:
Ethics and HR's role in the wake of harassment and gender pay gap reporting
The role of artifical intelligence in HR
Automation and how HR needs to leverage technology
How HR will be structured in future organisations
Demographics and the future supply and demand of labour
The role of empathy and doing the right thing and making a difference
The talk was littered with lots of interesting anecdotes which really brought the issues to life.
You can read some of David's blogs here, well worth a visit!

So in summary next time you are struggling for motivation to go to a branch event, make the effort, you may be pleasantly surprised as I was. Oh and you can also add it into your CPD record ;-)
What is the most interesting branch events that you have been to recently, please do share your experiences?
All the best
Sarah

Oh, I personally love the CIPD branch events. Mostly because of a number of insightful presentations and useful information sharing. And, just to cheer tired and hungry people up, the organizers always have cookies :-)
