  • Hi Louise,

Have you spoken to your intranet provider to see if they offer any forum / discussion plug ins? If this is an internally developed intranet then it might be worth speaking to the intranet team to see if there are any options at all. Otherwise speak to your IT team anyway. Engaging with IT or someone from this area is the best way to make progress as they will have an understanding of what security needs to be in place and what will work with existing systems and platforms.

When I was at a large corporate they developed their own site / forum with different discussions boards and categories and it worked really well in engaging people around values and how the organisation was going to develop. We set up an ERB - Employee Representative Board and chose people from different locations to be 'forum' champions and be real advocates in gettting people to contribute and add their opinions and ideas.

As per Sarah's comment below what specifically are you looking to use the forums for?

Is it part of a wider programme of work?

    General employee communications?

Is it going to be HR specific or will these be general employee forums?

Happy to share any experience around using forums and networks in organisations - you largely need foster a sense of community and answer the WIIFM to get people to participate in online discussions. It isn't about the technology first and foremost - it is about mindset and behaviours - underpinned by organisational culture.

  • Hi Louise

Great question sorry I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to technology can anyone else out there help Louise?

When you say employee engagement forum what sort of thing did you have in mind it would achieve?

    Kind regards

    Sarah

    • Hi Sarah, thanks for the reply I have been looking for alternatives to emails and would love to set up an employee engagement forum, Facebook have launched a Facebook at Work but it only seems to be the big companies that are getting access at the moment http://uk.businessinsider.com/why-rbs-is-using-facebook-at-work-201... maybe I just need to be patient and wait to see if they roll it out

      Regards, Louise

      • Thanks Louise I didn't know this looks really interesting thanks for sharing!

      • I'm reading with interest Facebook's progress in to the corporate market as a collaboration and communications tool. They are relatively late to the party with other tools like

All being used by organisations to help them collaborate and communicate better. It's going to be interesting how much traction and adoption they get given that Facebook is used by billions or people for purely social means. I'm wondering how they will make it more suitable to organisational needs and ultimately if there aim is for the tool to replace email. Take a look at the links above and here is an interesting article on the 'death of email' (or not)

        Email isn't dying

        Mike

        • Many thanks Mike I will review the tools and hopefully can use one of those
