HR Software

Hi folks,

I work for an SME looking for a new HR software package.  We don't currently have a need for it to tie-in with payroll.  We will be pulling together lots of excel spreadsheets and the paper based HR files.

Our Chairperson has had a positive experience with HR Select.  Any recommendations / or indeed advice on packages to avoid?

  • Hi Nina,

Like you I work for an SME (36 employees) pulling together all HR information manually on spreadsheets and we are also looking at implementing an HR system, so I'm now at the point of research.  I would be asking the same question as you, which seems pointless and I have read the responses which are very helpful and I'll look into some of them.  In this regard, I was just wondering if you'd made a decision and if so why you chose that system to aid my research.

Note to all Community members - I'd happily receive comments suggestions from you too.

    Thanks and regards

    • Hi Jan

About a year ago I sourced and implemented an integrated system that has lots of bolt on's, if you want them.  They are called Safe Computing. It's a small business and there are some elements that are a bit frustrating, but it's quite an intuitive system and if you want self service for employees, the workflows are good and the dashboard is clean.  Just a thought to add to the previous comments.  I've heard good things about Cascade and Bamboo HR.

      Good luck!

      • Hi Tamasin,

Thanks for your reply and another system to add to the mix, I didn't realise there were so many out there.  Ease of use and cost are going to be the main drivers for us I think, the self-service element is also very attractive.

        • Hi Jan

I'd say both elements are covered well with Safe.. There are so many systems out there - a cloud based solution is a great option as you don't have to think about the internal infrastructure requirements.  The downside of small organisations (offering HRIS) is that you sometimes don't get the level of service you might want, but you can consider just has quickly you need to hear from the supplier when you negotiate the SLA. References are great!

          Good luck!

  • Hi Nina,

I personally have had good experiences with Sage and HR.Net Professional. With HR.Net Professional, there is a self service element to it for Line Managers and Employees to use the system to request/approve holidays etc. Worked well in our SME.

In my current organisation, I use Sage which works really well.

  • Thanks everyone, really helpful comments here :)

  • Hi Nina

This is a really common question which we get here on the community and one thing I would suggest albeit not sure if this will help timewise is a visit to the CIPD exhibition where I suspect there will be lots of providers who can give demos of their products whilst you are there.

That's one to bear in mind for next year?

Let us know how you get on and what you ultimately decide.

    All the best

  • Hi Nina,

I recently posted a similar question as we have loads of spreadsheets and wanted to use a HR specific program to consolidate all our information. I also work for a SME (c.30 employees). Someone recommended People HR and another Bamboo HR. After trialing both, People HR seemed the best all rounder (price, functionality and interface) whereas Bamboo HR was quite expensive and did not have an e-signature function which is useful for policy updates etc. but it was a cleaner interface and more intuitive to use. For People HR, it costs £540 for 30 employees and think we will go with this company.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Sonny

  • Hi,

In my experience the SelectHR aftercare service is not great, although the software they offer is robust. Dependant on what your looking for I would suggest iTrent or Cascade they are very user friendly and the back end of the system can be easily edited long after the migration. Both systems offer employee and manager self service, workflows, and reporting.

    Hope this helps

    • Thank you very much, I will add both of those suppliers to my list to check out.
