Increases to self-certification period?

Hi all

I heard this on  the news, being a cynical HR bod I can't see how employees self-certing for 14 days is a positive move although I do appreciate it takes up GP time to provide these.

Is there a middle ground somewhere?

What impact would this have on your business if the self-cert period did increase to 14 days?

Do you think the savings made to the NHS in terms of GP time would outwiegh the increased absence costs to business, if there were any?
