Hi all
I came across this article about references and thought it had some good links to explaining specific aspects. The one about consent is a good reminder!References can be an area where it can get a bit tricky especially where job offers are withdrawn after a chat with a line manager.

Thanks Sarah, very interesting. Date and position only references are becoming more and more common - leading to references having greatly reduced benefit as a recruitment tool, - possibly overly risk-averse and detrimental towards getting the right employees into the right jobs, especially in education, care, etc. Although I believe there are further obligations re references for employees working with children and vulnerable adults, i.e. safeguarding concerns.
Yes that's right Lee I think this is down to the CQC (Care Quality Commission) and there are also separate rules for roles in businesses which are regulated by the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority). It would be great for someone who works in a business regulated by the CQC to confirm if this is the case.
