Thanks for this post - very interesting indeed. Just a question - in South African labour law, this would fall under the heading of what is termed an Automatically Unfair Dismissal, and if taken to the CCMA (the equivalent of an ACAS Tribunal) would result in 24 months' compensation...does UK labour law have similar penalties/precedents?
